Tea and Scones with Dostoevsky

Today I decided to make myself a tea tray and go back to bed to read. I'd made a batch of scones so they were at the ready, and I put the water on to a rolling boil and set out a tea tray for myself. A while ago I finished reading "The Gulag Archipelago" which reduced me to ashes. Now I am reading Dostoevsky 'The Brothers Karamazov' and as I sat at the side of my bed munching on scones (I had two pieces; oh my!) and sipping my second cup of tea, I found myself wiping away the stream of tears that were falling down my cheeks. I am so apprehensive about a 9-year old boy (one of the characters) I am fearful may die. Gosh those Russian writers know their craft.
Well now it is now on to the daily things...

  1. UPS will be delivering a package to you in five days since no mail can go through....Gulag was one of my favorites, though such a hard book to swallow...Karamazov yes tht one too, studied Russian Lit for a time. The do know how to tell long and powerful stories. You might like the poetry of Yevtushenko too! xox Corrine

  2. Thanks friend! I'll look him up! Gosh the Gulag did me in but I owed it to mankind to read and digest each and every word. It was difficult to say the least (to read it). Do you know they teach it in Russian schools now? It's part of the curriculum (his wife edited it down). I'll be watching for the package Corrine! *smiles* Norma

  5. It has been many years since I took on the literature of the Russian Masters. For me that makes great midwinter activity, curled up in a down comforter.
