Spider Love ... Altered Rolodex Cards

I'm out of practice with the acrylic medium image transfer technique, so I allowed a bit of paper fibre to sneak into the finished artpieces. Nonetheless, here are two altered rolodex cards that I made today. One is for April and the other, for myself. Here's one side of two cards:
And here is the other side:
This has been a nice diversion from what I've had my hand(s) to lately. I'll be letting the cards flatten out nicely in a heavy book overnight. Then I'll cut the holes at the bottom so they fit into the rolodex holder, and be able to finally get April's card into the mails.
Thanks for dropping in today. See you soon, I hope! *smiles* Norma
P.S. I'm adding this post script Sunday morning, after doing a little touch up on Inanna (I think that is her anyway). Someone once said that art is just fixing problems. If I had remembered that AFTER I'd coated the pieces with acrylic medium (which is basically liquid plastic) things would have been even better in the final version. Life and art are not a perfect science. This is what I did. Tim Holtz is genius with his line of products. My all time favorite is the 'distress ink' pad which I dab on with a makeup sponge. First, I filled in spots in spidey, using a waterproof pigment pen, and then applied the 'linen' colored distress ink right over top of everything. Had I remembered to do this before I'd coated it, the effects would have obliterated the white paper fibres (must make a note to self). In any event, things are much better. I punched out the holes so the card will fit the rolodex holder and viola! Ciao!

Altered Rolodex Cards make me happy!

My art friend April Cole has done it again. Made me very very happy that is. Because she traded with me, another altered rolodex card. She created this lovely art card which you can see here.
Along with this precious tidbit she sent me a whack of papers and charming bits and pieces to use in my own art. Have a look:
Oh how happy I am to have this wheel slowly filling up with fun lucious happy art!
You can see the front side of the card as it appears in the wheel. The back side contains the image of the bee.
So a tip o' the hat goes out to April today. Thanks for dropping in and I hope to see you soon, *smiles* Norma

Pass through the pink rain cloud with a smile

ALTERED ROLODEX CARDS The women may be passing through a rain cloud of pink tears but they are still smiling as they have some words of wisdom to help them weather the storm.
This gal has Tolstoy on her mind. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. [War and Peace]
And this gal is more of an Aristotle buff. True happiness flows from the possession of wisdom and virtue and not from the possession of external goods. [Politics]
I'm just playing with collage and decided to whip up a few altered rolodex cards. I'll be working on finishing the back of these. Then they get popped into the rolodex art wheel. Thanks for dropping by; we'll see you soon, I hope! *smiles* Norma

ART happens

Today I am practicing painting buddha faces. I'm working small and just playing basically. I'd arrived at the point where I was happy with my results and ready to take a break and maybe pack up for the day. Laying on my art table were the throwaway bits and I was just about to scoop them into the garbage bin when I realized that I could pop them on to a rolodex card for an altered rolodex art card. So I grabbed a blank card and collaged the throwaway bits onto the card and then added a word and an edge of other throwaway paper that I keep in a small box ready for times like this. Here is one page of the rolodex card (untrimmed) and also the bit of printed transparency that my daughter threw away and I nabbed. This transparency will make up the larger part of the reverse side of the card.
I just really liked the look of the ART that happened with the printed transparency laying beside it on the table. It's all serendipity isn't it? Nice to see you again. We'll see you soon, I hope, *smiles* Norma

Altered Rolodex Cards

I'm playing with the zenspiration style bird that I talked about in my last post, and have added a touch of a zentangle pattern called antidot to the bird body; to which I've also added stippling. The background shows a spider gel transfer and another zentangle pattern called heartvine. Now I've got the beginning of an altered rolodex card design so will be taking it from here as the saying goes. You can see my card planning below the card I received in the mail yesterday. This 2012 beauty was made by the talented and fabby Miss Donnalee! I love it, art friend!

As you can see, my rolodex wheel is beginning to load up with art cards. A joy to my eyes!
