Under the Ginkgo Tree [drawing challenge70]
This week the theme is 'cross stitch' which was chosen by our friend and host, Nadine.
My contribution is a collage using a ginkgo leaf, a leaf skeleton from a silver dollar plant, a clipping from an old book, a used tea bag leaf of paper, and gold metallic thread: all held together with a cross stitch solely.

this is rather pure magic though, norma... i love the colour tone of this so much. and held together by stitches... fancy the fragility of your work... truely inventive and charmingly petite as ever.
ReplyDeleteas to that 'leaf of paper'... :))). i love coincidence, it certainly holds us together. i find so special we'd be thinking of the same words... very frabjous!

Nadine, I'm going to refer to the used tea bag paper I use often in my work, as 'leaf of paper' from now on. It is exactly one leaf of paper which is exactly one used tea bag paper. Simple! Talk soon! *smiles* N. xo

Deletewhat a great and beautiful idea/work dear norma!!
ReplyDeletelast week i looked (together with ariane, patrice an barbara...) at a very surprising an tall gingko tree in hamburg! didn't know that they grow here! x julia
Julia, what a nice visual I have inside of my head of you and Ariane, Patrice and Barbara. Oh the conversations you must have had. Just fabby! There's ginkho trees growing along the streets in Chinatown here in Vancouver. We live at the edge of a rain forest where it rains, rains, rains. The ginkhos seem to thrive in any event. When the leaves shed and are laying all over the sidewalk in puddles of rain, they look like forgotten beauties. It was on a day like that that I crammed as many as I could gather into an outside pocket. Then I put them in a book and forgot about them. I'm looking forward to seeing your artwork at the challenge! *smiles* N. xo
DeleteDear Norma - your contribution to the challenge is charming - it has a faded glory to it and seems to represent past memories.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that you know that the Ginkgo is considered to be a living fossil, being a unique tree, and the only one remaining from the time that the Dinosaurs wandered the earth.
THIS fact does not surprise me. They are strong...even when old and forgotten in a book. Not at all crumbly!! This is a fun thing to know and makes me appreciate them even more than just their beauty and interesting shape. *smiles* N. xo
DeleteI love the harmony and texture of this delicate collage. The stitching is perfect and you must have the most precise fingers.
ReplyDeleteNicely done!
Rachel
Hi Rachel! Shockingly, those ginkho leaves are as strong as all get-out. Tea bag paper is shockingly strong too. So I was able to be kind of rough with the materials as I pinched them together while I sewed. It was fun. *smiles* N. xo
DeleteI really like this ... so organic...thanks so much for sharing.
